The newspaper reported that this is what the U.S. president called the secret weapon that made the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro possible. This word can be translated as «disorientator», «confuser», «thrower-off», and the like.

«This »disorientator«. I»m not allowed to talk about it, but I would like to,« The New York Times quotes Trump»s interview in the Oval Office. «They still couldn»t launch their rockets. They had Russian and Chinese rockets, and none of them worked. We went in, they pressed the buttons, and nothing happened. They were fully prepared for our attack.«

About something strange happening in Caracas was written immediately. The country«s presidential guard did not offer resistance, nor did the air defense, and later in American media, anonymous testimonies from participants of the events appeared: »We were on alert, but suddenly all our radar systems shut down without any explanation... At some point, they launched something; I don«t know how to describe it. It was like a very powerful sound wave. Suddenly, I felt as if my head was exploding from the inside. All of us had nosebleeds. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to move. We couldn»t even stand up after the application of this sound weapon — or whatever it was.«

All this led to the assumption that it was about some advanced acoustic equipment. It has been developed and locally used for many years, from the well-known LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) to infrasonic emitters «Whisper,» which security forces purchased in Russia. Similar types of non-lethal weapons can cause various physiological symptoms (including those listed in the media) as well as sensations of anxiety, fear, desire to hide. Some types of such cannons are occasionally noticed in various countries during the dispersal of demonstrations, they are used to fight pirates off the African coast, there is evidence of their use in military operations.

There have been many scandals related to this. The most famous — Havana syndrome, named after the events of 2016–2017, when CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) employees, the State Department, and the U.S. embassy in Cuba complained of nausea, headaches, ringing in the ears, auditory hallucinations, dizziness, and a feeling of pressure in the head. The State Department then suggested that it was the result of some acoustic attack, and the same The New York Times wrote that 130 American diplomats suffered from «Havana syndrome.» Subsequently, something similar happened in other countries.

From the latest — accusations of the Serbian police using sound cannons during the dispersal of demonstrations in Belgrade. In the conclusion of the FSB (Federal Security Service) involved in the investigation, it was stated that the emitters were not used: «There are clear signs of a staged provocation with the participation of a specially prepared group of people and the use of smartphones to synchronize movement while simulating the effect of an acoustic cannon.»

Meanwhile, Trump himself did not specify — whether the «discombobulator» strikes with sound or something else. Information is catastrophically scarce — with this agrees military expert, historian of air defense troops Yuri Knutov, with whom Fontanka spoke.

— Yuri Albertovich, first: do you even believe in the existence of some secret weapon that was used in the capture of Maduro?

— Of course. This was 100% a demonstration. They specifically showed that they have such a weapon.

— Just when Maduro«s guards first explained the absence of resistance with some secret strike, everyone assumed that the name of the weapon — a suitcase with U.S. dollars.

— Well, there«s no doubt here, judging by the behavior of Venezuela»s leadership, they really were bribed. But bribery is one thing, and affecting equipment as well — that«s another.

— Everyone confidently writes about some very secret and very powerful acoustic cannon. But are there any grounds to assert this?

— You know, I myself initially said that it«s infrasound. The effect is similar, waves bend around corners, depending on frequency they can pass through some objects. The only problem is that infrasound generators are large, it»s difficult to place them on the same drones. Therefore, I had the thought that this is the technological breakthrough: some compact generators. Well, plus a suitcase of money to those involved, as with Hussein, when they also handed out British passports with property documents. I was convinced of this too.

But then information came that they couldn«t turn on [the air defense]. And I decided that it might be operation »Pager-2« (by analogy with Mossad»s strike on Hezbollah using explosives planted in advance in pagers. — Note.). That is, Venezuela could have decided — say, let«s use not Russian, not Chinese spare parts here in air defense, for example video cameras, but purchase Western ones. And in them, some functional backdoors were already made. The same American air defense systems in a crisis situation do not work according to their own technology, this is one of the reasons why Turkey decided not to purchase Patriot.

But then I put together all the pieces of information published in different publications, and it seems there really was an impact. And as Trump said, only one anti-aircraft missile managed to launch and flew off somewhere.

This could be a generator of complex radiation. Including, say, microwave, which can burn out electronics (the U.S. already has the «Leonardo» complex, but again large). It can be assumed that a portable installation has appeared that simultaneously affects people with infrasound, microwave — electronics.

And Trump in Davos said a lot of things. For example, that the U.S. has such powerful weapons that one missile is enough to «destroy everything.» We can only guess, but they clearly made some breakthrough.

I repeat, I would stop at the version about infrasound and microwave, if not for the statements about space and time and about moving to various points.
