Since January 21, the State Duma has introduced a ban on filming plenary sessions for photojournalists. As reported by Vedomosti, several sources in the lower house of parliament announced this.

The decision was made after a speech by State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, who criticized the photographers. The duration of the ban has not been specified.

Photographers traditionally filmed from the balcony of the meeting hall, where they were alongside camera operators. However, since January 21, only operators remain there. The day before, Volodin addressed photojournalists:

“When you find yourselves in various situations, note that we never mock you, never offend you or make fun of you, simply put. And when you are on the balcony, you take, you capture moments, but probably those moments that occur in your own life as well,” the speaker said.

He accused the photographers of trying to capture deputies in an unfavorable light.

“This is wrong and destructive. And how would you react if something similar happened to your loved ones?” added Volodin.
