Star City Head Barishevsky Resigns Amid Bribery Suspicions

The head of Star City resigned after being accused of accepting a large bribe from a contractor.
The head of the Star City municipality in the Moscow region, Yevgeny Barishevsky, who was detained on suspicion of bribery, stated that he resigned of his own free will.
«This step was not easy for me, because a significant part of my working life was dedicated to serving this unique municipality with your support,» the official stated in his personal Telegram channel.
He noted that during this time he managed to transform the housing and utilities sector and public amenities, and strengthen social policy and cultural life.
The day before, it became known that a criminal case had been initiated against Barishevsky under Part 5, Clause «v» of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code (receiving a bribe on a large scale). He was placed under house arrest. As reported by the media, the official allegedly received a bribe from a local businessman for patronage in the execution of a contract for the improvement of a kindergarten.

Earlier in the Moscow region, former deputy head of Khimki Dmitry Kaigorodov was detained. He is suspected of especially large-scale fraud in the housing and utilities sector.
