Amina Botasheva has been approved for the position of press secretary of the Kuzbass administration, replacing Yevgeny Romanov, who stepped down amid controversial events. Until now, she has headed the media relations department at the Kemerovo city administration, NGS42.RU reported on Monday, 26 January, citing the regional government.

“Amina Botasheva will head the Department of Information Policy of the Kuzbass government administration. She has been leading the media relations committee of the Kemerovo city administration since May 2021,” the press service reported.

Botasheva is a graduate of Kemerovo State University (KemSU) with degrees in journalism and law, and has also studied at Saint Petersburg State University and the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.

She has over 17 years of experience in media and extensive work in administrative bodies. Among other things, she was in charge of the Kemerovo press service during the years when the city was headed by Ilya Seredyuk.

Last Friday, 23 January, Romanov left his post as head of the Kuzbass information policy department at his own request. This came after a series of negative events in the region, including mass infant deaths at a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk (in the Kuzbass region). The slow response from press services sparked outrage on social media.
