Greenland Prime Minister Orders Preparation for US Invasion

On January 21, the Interfax agency reported that Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederic Nielsen ordered the start of preparations for a possible military invasion by the United States.

To assist residents in case of potential disruptions, the government will create a special working group of local government representatives. Recommendations will be distributed to the population, including, among other things, advice to stock up on food for at least five days.

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Former U.S. President Donald Trump first expressed the idea of America purchasing the island during his first term. Recently, he has intensified his rhetoric, stating that the U.S. will do it «one way or another.» On January 12, Republican Congressman Randy Fine introduced a bill for the annexation of Greenland by the U.S., and Trump himself previously announced the imposition of customs duties on goods from a number of European countries.
