Federal Investigators Depart Novokuznetsk After Three Days Probing Infant Deaths

The federal commission has left the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital where nine infants died without announcing the investigation«s results. They departed last week, a source in the regional Health Ministry told NGS42.RU on Tuesday, January 20.
Leading experts from across the country reviewed the hospital«s documentation, spoke with some medical staff and representatives of the regional Health Ministry. In addition, they examined the medical histories of the deceased children and their mothers.
According to the publication«s source, they flew out at the end of last week, on January 16.
«Our Health Ministry and Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), which also initiated an inspection, have not announced any conclusions a week after the incident either. There may be a joint statement, but most likely they will wait for the results of the law enforcement investigation,» the source said.
The commission arrived in Novokuznetsk on January 14 on the orders of federal authorities. The team investigating the circumstances of the hospital«s work during the January holidays was led by the head of Roszdravnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare), Alla Samoilova. Along with her, specialists from the Kulakov National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology and the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University arrived.
