The job search service SuperJob shared the results of a survey among working residents of Voronezh. The study was conducted from January 19 to 22, involving economically active city dwellers with professional experience. As a result, 40% of respondents admitted to personally experiencing abuse from management: what we call despotism and psychological tyranny. And 29% stated that they face pressure in their team.

— Women reported cases of psychological pressure from both superiors and the team more often than men, — said the survey authors. — At the same time, city residents aged 35–45 appear to be the most vulnerable. Workers with higher education more frequently spoke about unhealthy attitudes from management. Employees with secondary professional education more often suffer from inappropriate behavior from colleagues.

Almost half of the surveyed middle-aged city residents (48%) complained that their boss abuses power, and 36% accused their colleagues of causing moral suffering.

— Obviously, this is due to the fact that young people have less experience in relationships with people in work collectives, and the older generation traditionally receives more respect, — believe the survey authors. — People aged 35–45 are most active in the labor market, so they encounter negative situations more often.

Among the manifestations of abuse from management, Voronezh residents listed: forcing overtime work, not allowing sick leave, delaying salary, public humiliation, unreasonable nitpicking, and arrogant ignoring. As for colleagues, the leaders are nitpicking (37%) and «general toxicity» (27%). Every fourth person reported psychological pressure in the team, and 16% complained about gossip.

The majority of respondents (59%) believe that a boss«s despotism is a red flag for dismissal. 46% advocated for changing jobs due to toxic colleagues. At the same time, the most vulnerable turned out to be people with secondary professional education — they more often spoke about radical steps due to a bad psychological climate at work. By the way, Voronezh residents with a salary of more than 150,000 rubles per month (approximately $1,500 at current rates) are still willing to tolerate colleagues» despotism, but do not intend to reconcile with a tyrannical boss — let him regret it later over the valuable employee he lost.
