Ice Causes Power Outage in Two Villages Near Volgograd

Volgograd Region residents experienced electricity outages caused by ice accumulation on January 30.
On the morning of January 30, in the villages of Gornaya Proleyka and Gorny Bakyley in Dubovsky District of Volgograd Region, a power outage occurred, which lasted until late evening.
A local resident shared his concerns: «The most frustrating thing is not knowing what»s happening. We filed a request for repairs and are still in the dark. Many, of course, have centralized heating systems, but for the elderly, it runs on electricity. Luckily, it warmed up today.«
As reported by the press service of the branch of PJSC «Rosseti-Yug» (Rosseti South), the cause of the accident was the shedding of ice formations on power lines.
A repair crew has already been dispatched, but access to the damage site is hampered by a washed-out road. Currently, road services are clearing the way for special equipment.
The estimated time for power restoration is two hours. The company explained that ice shedding is a phenomenon where, as a result of melting, ice deposits fall from the wires under their own weight.
