Details have emerged about an incident at a pool in Tyumen (Russia) where a child nearly drowned a few days ago. The incident occurred on 4 October at the «Judo Center» (Dzyudo-tsentr) on Valeria Gnarovskaya Street. On Saturday afternoons the facility holds classes for children aged seven and up.

«The girl was training under the supervision of an experienced coach. She was performing exercises that involved holding her breath underwater. The coach did not leave and was not distracted, but at some point realized that the child had not resurfaced for too long. He immediately pulled the girl out of the pool», — a source familiar with the case told the 72.RU journalist.

The coach performed resuscitation himself and called an ambulance. The medics who arrived at the scene took the girl to the hospital.

The Department of Health (Departament zdravookhraneniya) said the child’s condition is being assessed as moderate.

The police (politsiya) said an inquiry into the matter is currently under way.

The «Judo Center» (Dzyudo-tsentr) itself declined to explain the reasons for the incident, telling a journalist that «they are not authorized to give comments».

Parents of other children who also use this pool are now frightened. They want to be present at classes to prevent similar incidents.

Earlier we reported that in December last year, after swimming in the pool at the Skazka holiday resort in Tobolsk, children were hospitalized. At that time they were admitted with a preliminary diagnosis of «poisoning by chlorine fumes». The holiday resort was temporarily closed. It later emerged that the preliminary diagnosis was not confirmed.
