Ex-police officer convicted for data theft in Murmansk

The former officer shared personal data of Murmansk residents with his acquaintances.
In Murmansk, a former criminal investigation operative was found guilty of unlawful access to computer information and violation of privacy, according to the regional investigative committee.
From 2021 to 2024, the ex-police officer, at the request of acquaintances, searched for necessary information in databases, copied it, and passed it on, disseminating data about 10 Murmansk residents including personal details and registration addresses.
The former law enforcement officer was fined 240,000 rubles (approximately $2,400 at current rates) and banned for three years from holding positions in public service in internal affairs bodies related to the exercise of authority functions.
As a reminder, in Apatity, a criminal case is being investigated against a former traffic safety inspector, who is also suspected of illegal access to databases.
