37-year-old driver and child injured in Murmansk Oblast crash

A 37-year-old driver and an 11-year-old child were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision on the Kola highway near Polyarnye Zory.

Details have emerged of the massive accident that occurred yesterday at around 19:10 on the 1174th kilometer of the Kola highway.

Prosecutors are investigating the circumstances of the serious highway incident.

According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, a 37-year-old resident of Kandalaksha, driving an Audi A4, failed to maintain a safe lateral distance and sideswiped a Volkswagen Polo traveling in the oncoming lane. The Audi then continued on its path in the wrong lane, colliding with an Opel Corsa. The car was then spun perpendicularly and thrown into a Scania tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Audi was hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. An 11-year-old child from the Opel Corsa was taken to a medical facility with bruises.

The prosecutor«s office of the city of Polyarnye Zory has organized an inspection into the accident. City Prosecutor Tatiana Semyonova visited the scene. Establishing the causes and conditions of the crash is under the control of the prosecutor»s office.
