Ryazan Medics Rescue Boy in New Year's Emergency

A child in Ryazan was placed in an induced coma after a critical condition worsened overnight.
Residents of Ryazan region are urged to seek medical help immediately. Even if it«s New Year»s and there«s a lot of fuss around, otherwise it could end sadly. The story from her practice was told by Yulia Oderkova, senior shift doctor at the regional ambulance station and a top-category anesthesiologist-resuscitator.
A few days before New Year«s, the boy developed a fever. His parents thought it was a common cold and treated him themselves. But on the night of January 1, the child»s condition worsened.
«On New Year«s Eve, his condition sharply deteriorated: wheezing and heavy breathing appeared. Hoping to »wait it out,« they gave him an inhalation and put him to sleep» — says Yulia Oderkova.
But early in the morning of January 1, an ambulance had to be called. In critical condition, the boy was taken to the hospital and put into an induced coma for a week.
Instead of a cold, the child had a rare and dangerous disease.
«Delay could have cost a life» — concluded Oderkova.
According to her, in the New Year«s hustle, alarming symptoms in a child can be overlooked. If they appear, one should not self-treat. It»s better to go to the hospital or call an ambulance.
