An outbreak of influenza A has been recorded at a boarding school for people with mental disorders in Prokopyevsk. According to the prosecutor«s office and investigative committee of the region, on Saturday, January 24, it was reported that 46 patients are ill, two of whom are currently in serious condition, and an investigation has been initiated into the matter.

From data in a social media post, it is indicated that 46 people in the boarding school are complaining of prolonged fever and temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius (104°F), with headaches and body aches. Two of the infected are in serious condition.

Reports also revealed that the virus was detected in individuals on January 23 and 24, after which all were sent for treatment to hospitals in Novokuznetsk and Prokopyevsk. One version under investigation is a subtype of influenza A, but there is also speculation that it could be Hong Kong flu.

Prosecutors and investigators have already organized a pre-investigation check into the mass illness incident.

Hong Kong flu is an acute respiratory viral infection. The virus penetrates the cells of the nasopharynx and trachea, destroying them and reducing the barrier function of the mucous membrane. It also enters the bloodstream and disrupts its properties, leading to intoxicating effects on the body.

Earlier, we reported that in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital, a version was proposed that bacteria were the cause of mass infant deaths. This was confirmed by one of the mothers, who was informed by medical institution employees.
