An increase in the number of cases of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza among adults and children is being recorded in Tyumen Oblast.

«During the 4th week of 2026, an 18% increase in the incidence of ARVI and influenza has been noted. The epidemic threshold has not been exceeded in the total population or in age groups. Viruses of both influenza and non-influenza etiology are circulating,» reported the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).

Specialists had previously predicted this surge and now expect the approach of another wave of illness.

«The rise of influenza in the winter period always occurs in December and January. The second wave will be in March. This is related to the fact that we vaccinate before December 1st. After a single injection, immunity develops within three to four weeks, meaning only a month after vaccination does a person become protected,» commented Andrey Pozdnyakov, an infectious disease doctor at INVITRO, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

To reduce the risk of infection, sanitary doctors recommend that residents of the oblast adhere to the following preventive measures:

  • use antiseptics to treat hands before eating and after visiting public places;
  • wear medical masks in places with mass gatherings of people;
  • maintain social distancing.

Moreover, pneumonia continues to spread in the region.
