Volgograd region faces another day of severe frost
Weather forecasters warn that another night of severe frost must be endured. Thermometers could drop to -30°C (-22°F) again, but on Wednesday they will rise sharply, with daily temperature swings potentially reaching 24°C (43°F). Here«s the forecast for the first three days of the final week of January.
On the night of January 27, no significant precipitation is expected in the region, but roads will be slippery. The wind will change direction to southerly and southeasterly, with speeds of 5–10 m/s at night and 7–12 m/s during the day. It will be cold at night — from -20 to -25°C (-4 to -13°F), and with clear skies, thermometers could plummet to -30°C (-22°F). During the day, temperatures of -13 to -18°C (9 to 0°F) are forecast.
On Wednesday, January 28, light snow in places, with ice, fog, and icy conditions overnight and in the morning in some areas. The wind will increase to 12–14 m/s. Overnight lows of -13 to -18°C (9 to 0°F), with clear skies down to -25°C (-13°F), and daytime highs from -5 to -10°C (23 to 14°F), but in some places the air will warm to -1°C (30°F).
January 29 will be warm and snowy. Overnight and in the morning, ice-frost phenomena, fog, and icy conditions in some areas. The wind will be quite noticeable — with gusts up to 12–14 m/s. Overnight lows of -1 to -6°C (30 to 21°F), with clear skies -7 to -12°C (19 to 10°F), and daytime highs from -3 to +2°C (27 to 36°F).
In Volgograd on the night of January 27, no significant precipitation, roads slippery. Southeasterly wind will blow at night at 5–10 m/s, strengthening to 7–12 m/s during the day. Overnight low in the city expected to be -22°C (-8°F), daytime high -13°C (9°F).
January 28: fog and ice overnight and in the morning, light snow during the day. Wind southerly, southeasterly; overnight low in the regional center -15°C (5°F), daytime high -4°C (25°F).
January 29: no significant precipitation, fog overnight and in the morning, icy roads. Wind southeasterly, southerly, 7–12 m/s. Overnight low only -5°C (23°F), daytime high around zero (32°F).
