Marmoset Pair Welcomes Ninth Offspring at Leningrad Zoo

A marmoset pair named Lucius and Helga at the Leningrad Zoo has given birth. The infant was born on January 7, on Christmas Day, marking the ninth time these parents have welcomed a baby.
Zoo staff have not yet been able to determine the newborn«s sex, as it is constantly surrounded by its parents and numerous brothers and sisters.
Marmosets have a unique system of caring for their young. For the first two months of its life, the infant spends its time on the backs of adult family members. After birth, the father and older siblings provide the primary care, while the mother«s role is mostly limited to feeding.
«At the same time, the baby is very curious and is already starting to make timid attempts to explore the enclosure,» the zoo notes.
The previous addition to this marmoset family occurred in early September 2025.
