Inspection finds multiple violations at Yekaterinburg coffee chain after poisonings

Inspectors conducted checks and collected samples at the coffee shop chain following health concerns.
Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) inspected DUO coffee shops in Yekaterinburg after a series of poisonings. As of now, seven cases of acute intestinal infections are known among Yekaterinburg residents who visited establishments of this chain. It is still unknown whether customers were poisoned specifically there—tests are still being processed.
Agency employees inspected seven coffee shops of the chain and its suppliers. Rospotrebnadzor found a number of serious violations: non-compliance with requirements for product labeling and storage; non-compliance with disinfection regime requirements; lack of documents confirming the development and implementation of procedures based on HACCP principles.
In the operations of the supplier Dessertkom+ LLC, violations were also identified: «Non-compliance of the layout and condition of production premises with sanitary rules; unsatisfactory sanitary condition of the workshop (dirt, mold); lack of production control and documents confirming the development and implementation of procedures based on HACCP principles; non-compliance with requirements for the production, storage, labeling, and disposal of food products; absence of documents for products ensuring their traceability; allowing employees who have not passed medical examinations to work, etc.»
The second supplier of the chain — Parogroup LLC — is undergoing inspection. Both suppliers have suspended their activities.
Also, Staphylococcus aureus was detected in two coffee shop employees. Laboratory test results showed that coliform bacteria were found in the foam for coffee drinks. Rospotrebnadzor continues the investigation.
Recall that on the afternoon of 19 January, medics visited the outlet in the «Bolshoy» department store, after which the coffee shop closed for technical reasons. DUO customers in Yekaterinburg began complaining en masse about poisonings in mid-January. City residents reported that after visiting the establishment they felt unwell: severe vomiting, weakness, chills.
Many city residents left reviews describing their symptoms. Here you can read the stories of the victims.
