Engels Cafe in Yekaterinburg Closed Due to Violations

The Engels cafe near Chkalovskaya metro station has been closed for 30 days following a court decision.
Engels Cafe on 8 March Street, located near the Southern Bus Station in Yekaterinburg, was suddenly closed. The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) of Sverdlovsk Region is inspecting the activities of Limited Liability Company «Plyazh», the legal entity registered for the establishment. Specialists took samples of products, drinking water, swabs, and disinfectants.
During the inspection, sanitary doctors identified a number of violations:
- absence of labeling on products;
- violation of waste collection rules;
- non-compliance with product storage conditions;
- absence of measuring instruments in refrigeration equipment;
- shortage of necessary journals;
- non-compliance by employees with personal hygiene rules.
Based on materials from Rospotrebnadzor, the Chkalovsky District Court decided to suspend the cafe«s operation for 30 days. Currently, sanitary doctors are awaiting the results of laboratory tests.
Representatives of Engels clarified that they had not received any complaints from customers.
«During the inspection after the expansion of the restaurant»s area, eight violations were discovered, which we eliminated and provided protocols for this in court. At the moment, we are awaiting the results of official research and tests. In all other Engels branches, we have conducted unscheduled inspections and are operating normally,« noted the cafe.
The Engels network includes six cafes in Yekaterinburg. The establishments are known for their waffles. The network is managed by restaurateur Valentin Kuzyakin, who also operates the establishments «Gastroli», «Soyka», «Gady, Kraby i vino» («Snakes, Crabs and Wine»), and the bar «Shalom Shanghai».
Earlier, in mid-January, customers of another Yekaterinburg cafe, DUO, mass complained of poisoning. Residents reported that after visiting the establishment, they felt unwell: severe vomiting, weakness, and chills. An inspection by sanitary doctors revealed the presence of Staphylococcus aureus in two DUO employees.
