Two Milenas, Three Mias: Novosibirsk Parents Discuss Unique Names
Last year, new unusual names appeared that were given to children in Novosibirsk.
The Novosibirsk region civil registry office published a list of unusual names given to newborns in 2025. Under the post on the Telegram channel readers shared their variants of rare and popular names. NGS collected the most interesting versions.
Subscribers told what unusual and rare names they chose for their children.
«My daughter is named Aurora,» shared a reader.
«We named the youngest Fotiniya,» wrote a Siberian woman.
«In our family: mom is Yaroslava, sons are Miron and Yaromyr, and dad modestly Alexei,» explained a woman.
Also, NGS readers shared how things are with unique names in their surroundings.
«Now the popular name is Mia. We have three in the group,» wrote a Siberian woman.
«The name Sveta is also popular. In the class, there were five girls, and now, in the technical school group, there are seven,» noted a commentator.
«In my son»s class, there are two Milanas and two Milenas,« told a resident of Novosibirsk.
Among the commentators, there were those who told their story of choosing a name for the baby.
«Before, Bogdans were named especially long-awaited children, when families couldn»t for a long time, and suddenly it happened. A rare name was for this reason. Or they named in honor of elders of the clan,« explained a resident of Novosibirsk.
«My husband and I wrote on a sheet 20 male names and 20 female names. And we crossed out what didn»t suit the patronymic or was among our relatives. The child was sitting, the doctor couldn«t determine, but said that it seems like a boy. I went to the maternity hospital for Dmitry Vadimovich, but came with Ksyusha,» wrote a woman.
«And at birth, they wanted to name me Yunna, but named me Oksana. And my little daughter before birth was Ivan (they thought it would be a boy), then for 3 days Alexandra, but named Margarita,» shared a reader.
