Why winter is the best time to visit Montenegro
Montenegro is rarely associated with winter vacations. But outside the high season, the country reveals a different side—without crowds, heat, and hustle. A correspondent from 26.RU spent the New Year holidays in Montenegro and discovered why winter can be the ideal time for travel.
The route was as follows: Mineralnye Vody – Istanbul – Tivat. Upon arrival, it became clear: the main rule for winter Montenegro is a car. Public transport runs infrequently at this time, and the most beautiful places are far from tourist routes.
The most memorable episode of the trip occurred on the Prevlaka Peninsula. The Monastery of the Archangel Michael was closed due to heavy rain, but the phone number on the gate was active. After a call, a monk came out and opened the monastery especially for us.
Winter Montenegro is not just about the coast. In the Žabljak area, there is snow and frost. Durmitor National Park, Black Lake, and the Đurđevića Tara Bridge over the Tara River canyon are beautiful any time of year.
Traveling off-season proved to be not only emotionally rewarding but also cost-effective. Renting accommodation and cars is cheaper, there are no queues in restaurants, and many places can be experienced in a way that«s impossible in summer—in complete silence and without rush.
