Russian films among nominees for 2026 Oscars

In Los Angeles on January 22, the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars) were announced. The awards ceremony itself will take place on March 16. The host of the awards will once again be Conan O«Brien.

Russian director Konstantin Bronzit («Luntik», «Na vybros») has been shortlisted in the «Best Animated Short Film» category with his work «Three Sisters». In the «Best Documentary Feature» category, the film «Mr. Nobody vs. Putin» by Pavel Talankin, about school reforms in Russia since 2022, has been nominated.

Leading the number of nominations is «Sinners», a vampire action film by Ryan Coogler, which earned a record 16 nominations, including for directing, lead and supporting roles, as well as cinematography and editing.

Nominated for Best Director by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is Paul Thomas Anderson («Battle by Battle»).

The list of Best Actress nominees includes: Jessie Buckley («Hamnet»), Renate Reinsve («Sentimental Value»), Emma Stone («Bugonia»), Rose Byrne («I»d Kick You If I Could«), Kate Hudson (»Melody of Their Dreams«).

Best Supporting Actor: Stellan Skarsgård («Sentimental Value»), Jacob Elordi («Frankenstein»), Benicio del Toro («Battle by Battle»), Sean Penn («Battle by Battle»), Delroy Lindo («Sinners»).

In the nomination for Best Supporting Actress are: Teyana Taylor («Battle by Battle»), Amy Madigan («Tools»), Wunmi Mosaku («Sinners»), Elle Fanning («Sentimental Value»), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas («Sentimental Value»).
