Tomsk School to Undergo First Major Renovation in 60 Years
Tomsk authorities have allocated 100 million rubles for a major overhaul of a school building untouched since 1968, with work starting imminently.

In the coming days, the contractor will begin repairs on one of the buildings of School No. 45, which educates children with disabilities. As Mayor Dmitry Makhinya told journalists, 100 million rubles (approximately $1.1 million at current rates) have been allocated for work on the school building on Irkutsk Tract, which hasn«t had a major renovation since 1968. They aim to complete the repairs by September 2026.

Recall that in 2026, Tomsk will begin repairs on five schools: No. 45 (two buildings), Pushkin Lyceum No. 1 (one building, which houses the additional education block), and School No. 31 (two buildings).
The gymnasium, which was once a kindergarten, contributes to the school«s unique architectural layout.

According to Dmitry Makhinya, the contractor will begin repairs on the School No. 45 building on Irkutsk Tract as early as January 26. It is planned that the company «Montazhstroi» will repair the roof, update the ceilings, interfloor ceilings, floors, windows, and doors.

As school principal Elena Loktionova told journalists, during the repairs, 200 students will be temporarily housed in a separate block of the new school on Vysotskogo Street, which opened in 2025.
As for the second building of School No. 45, which is on Voikova Street, repairs will begin there in March 2026, but authorities have not yet signed a contract with a contractor.
