Visitor Robbed Another After Fight in Sochi

Police in Sochi have detained a man suspected of robbing a tourist he had just met. The altercation, which started as a personal argument, escalated into an assault and theft on a city street.

Police in Sochi«s Central District have solved a robbery that took place on Moskovskaya Street. The crime was committed late in the evening, and the victim was a tourist from the Krasnoyarsk Territory, according to the Sochi police press service.

A dispute between two men escalated into a physical assault and theft of personal items.

The men had met shortly before the incident, and a conflict arose during their conversation. As a result, the man from Siberia was struck several times, after which the assailant took his jacket, which contained a phone and passport in a pocket, and fled. The damage was estimated at 24,000 rubles (about $264 at current rates).

Using CCTV footage, criminal investigation officers quickly tracked the robber«s route and detained a 43-year-old visitor to the city.

A criminal case has been initiated against him under Part 2 of Article 161 of the Russian Criminal Code (Robbery). He faces up to 7 years in prison.
