Ural man strangled, burned schoolgirl, dumped remains in river 19 years ago

The Prigorodny District Court of Nizhny Tagil has concluded the closing arguments in the case of a child«s murder committed 19 years ago. The defendant is local resident Sergey Berezovich.

According to the investigation, in May 2007, the man was in the village of Nikolo-Pavlovskoye (Sverdlovsk Region). There, he quarreled with his 11-year-old acquaintance named Lyuba. Sergey strangled the girl in his car. To cover up the crime, the killer burned the corpse and threw the child«s remains into a river. The case was investigated by the 4th Directorate of the Sverdlovsk Region Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (for crimes of past years).
«The state prosecutor, during the closing arguments, asked the court to sentence Sergey Berezovich to 14 years of imprisonment, and a total of 23 years of imprisonment, taking into account the sentence under which the man is currently already serving punishment for crimes committed against a minor,» clarified the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.
It is known that Berezovich was previously convicted for lewd acts against the murdered girl and another victim. In his final statement, the defendant pleaded guilty.
As reported by the prosecutor«s office, the man transported the girl»s corpse to a forest belt, having prepared two canisters of gasoline and a sheet of iron in advance. He placed the victim«s body on the iron sheet and burned it, dousing it with flammable liquid for 2–3 hours. The unburned remains of the corpse were brought by the accused to his home and burned for another 4–5 hours in a bathhouse furnace, breaking the bones with a poker.
The verdict for the murder of the schoolgirl will be handed down to Sergey Berezovich on January 27.
