In Tula, a 32-year-old man has been sentenced for financing the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor«s office.

In April 2022, the Tula resident used cryptocurrency to transfer money in support of Ukrainian armed formations, thereby sponsoring activities directed against the security of the country and its residents.

The funds he sent were used to supply the Ukrainian army.

The man was convicted under an article on state treason — a charge for which the maximum penalty is life imprisonment.

The court sentenced the man to twelve years and six months in a strict-regime colony, plus one year of restricted freedom after his release from prison. His phone, used to make the transfers, was also confiscated.

According to published footage from the court, the defendant showed no remorse for his actions and smiled openly as the verdict was announced.
