Trial Set for Tolyatti Driver in Father's Dragging Death

The story of the tragic death of a Samara activist continues. The prosecutor«s office has approved an indictment against the driver of the car that hit Sergey Funtikov.

Sergey Funtikov, a father of many children and public figure from the village of Fedorovka, died in June 2025 under the wheels of a Mazda CX-7. The driver was a 61-year-old resident of Tolyatti. According to the investigation, a verbal conflict occurred between him and Funtikov, sparked by fast driving in a residential area.

«The pedestrian approached the driver sitting in the car and grabbed the frame of the driver»s door, the window of which was open. At that moment, the accused started moving with a sharp acceleration. The victim could not hold on and fell onto the asphalt surface of a country road, sustaining serious bodily injuries,« the regional prosecutor»s office reported.

As relatives of the deceased recounted, the driver dragged Sergey Funtikov past four houses and fled. The victim was taken to intensive care with head injuries, where he died.

Sergey Funtikov«s family feared that the Mazda driver would avoid responsibility. However, this did not happen — a criminal case was initiated against the Tolyatti resident under the article for »Intentional infliction of grave harm to health, resulting in the victim«s death through negligence.»

After the accused is served a copy of the indictment, the criminal case will be sent to the Komsomolsky District Court of Tolyatti for consideration on the merits.
