Over the past day, five residents of Tula Region have reported fraud to the police. The victims are citizens aged 18 to 36. The total damage exceeded 185 thousand rubles (approximately $1,900 at current rates).
The largest loss was suffered by an 18-year-old resident of Donskoy. According to him, the criminals contacted him via a popular messenger and convinced him of the need to allegedly declare his funds. As a result, the young man transferred 75 thousand rubles (approximately $750 at current rates) to the fraudsters.
The Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Tula Region urges residents to remain vigilant when communicating with strangers. Police remind that one should not transfer money to so-called «safe» accounts, provide third parties with bank card details and access codes, or click on suspicious links.
If you receive suspicious calls, it is recommended to end the conversation immediately. To check information about your account status, you should contact the bank yourself using the phone number on the back of your card or visit a branch of the credit institution in person.
