Ryazan Hospital Chief Doctor Faces New Bribery Allegation

An additional episode of large-scale bribery has been uncovered in the case of Oleg Shalaev, the chief doctor of Ryazan Regional Clinical Hospital. This was reported on January 28 by the press service of the regional Investigative Committee.
According to the investigation, in 2025, an acquaintance entrepreneur paid about 400,000 rubles (approximately $5,000 at current rates) to Shalaev in exchange for information on upcoming purchases of medical equipment and materials. Moreover, the chief doctor of Ryazan OKB allegedly provided other assistance that helped the businessman win procurement contracts.
OKB stands for Regional Clinical Hospital.
Investigators uncovered another bribery episode with the help of the FSB and the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department.
«A set of investigative actions is being carried out in the criminal case, aimed at securing the evidence base and identifying similar episodes of the accused«s criminal activity,» added the press service of the Investigative Committee for Ryazan Region.
Oleg Shalaev has been in pre-trial detention since January 23: according to the investigation, for a won tender for the purchase of medical equipment, the businessman could have paid another about 300,000 rubles (approximately $4,000 at current rates).
The criminal investigation is ongoing.
