Prosecutor Seeks Jail for Ex-TSUACE Vice-Rector and Son

During the debates, the prosecutor requested five years in a penal colony for former first vice-rector of Tomsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (TSUACE) Vladimir Vaks and his son Ilya Vaks. This was reported to NGS70.RU by the regional prosecutor«s office.
The prosecutor«s office told NGS70.RU that the prosecutor sought five years of imprisonment in a general-regime correctional colony for the father and son. Additionally, the prosecutor asked to impose a fine of 1 million rubles (approximately $10,000 at current rates) on Ilya and Vladimir.
In the case card of the Oktyabrsky Court, where the criminal case is being heard, another suspect is listed — Vadim Alexandrovich Melnikov. He, like the Vaks, is being tried under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Russian Criminal Code.
The next court hearing is scheduled for February 6.
Recall that Vladimir and Ilya Vaks were detained in May 2025. Both were suspected of embezzling funds from TSUACE. According to the investigation, in 2018, the defendants hired a «dead soul» — an employee who did not work but received a salary. As the investigation claims, in this way the father and son stole 8.8 million rubles (approximately $88,000 at current rates). The accused partially admitted guilt and partially compensated for the damage.
