Nervous pedestrian leads Tolyatti police to drug trafficking suspect

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (GU MVD) described how they tracked down a man suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. The operation was conducted jointly by police and investigators.

«One evening, traffic police officers at the »Rubezh« checkpoint — located on the M-5 highway in Tolyatti — noticed a suspicious pedestrian. The man was walking and constantly looking over his shoulder. They stopped him to check his documents and it turned out that the 37-year-old resident of Syzran had been repeatedly convicted of serious crimes. The detained man was nervous, confused in his testimony, and during a personal search, a package with a powdery substance was found on him. He admitted that he had purchased dangerous substances via the internet and intended to sell them using hidden caches in Tolyatti,» the police said.

The information was passed to the duty station, after which an investigative-operational group and officers from the drug control department arrived at the scene. They went to the suspicious pedestrian«s apartment and conducted a search.

«On the spot, six smoking devices with liquid were found, and in his phone — photos of the hidden caches. The police established the location of the caches and seized several dozen packages with narcotic substances in Syzran, near the house of the detained man»s parents,« commented the GU MVD of Russia for the Samara Region.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 228.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, «Attempted large-scale drug trafficking.» The court has taken the suspect into custody.

In autumn, police in Tolyatti detained a «death dealer» — he attempted to sell a large batch of drugs in one of the residential areas of the Avtozavodsky District.
