Court Rules Migrants Pay 5.6M Rubles to Parents

Four migrants convicted of killing a 17-year-old teenager near the Cosmos mall in Chelyabinsk are obliged to pay his parents 5.6 million rubles (about $56,000 at current rates). The Kalininsky District Court issued the corresponding ruling.
The lawsuit for compensation of moral damages was filed by the mother and father of the deceased.
Compensation for moral damages of 700,000 rubles (about $7,000) each from Sattorov, Mirov, Jalilov, and Saburov should be collected in favor of each parent,the court instance quoted the decision.
This ruling has not yet taken legal effect.
The conflict, which ended with the death of an 11th-grade student, occurred on the evening of April 9, 2023, in the area of a computer club located in the Cosmos mall.
After the crime, law enforcement agencies quickly detained a 20-year-old migrant, and subsequently the number of suspects increased to eight Tajik citizens, among whom were minors.
The judicial process on the criminal case started in the regional court in March 2024. During the proceedings, the parents of the deceased and numerous witnesses were questioned.
The state prosecution requested real prison terms ranging from 5 to 18 years for all accused, while the defendants themselves asked for mitigation of the sentence.
On October 28, 2024, the Chelyabinsk Regional Court announced the final sentence, imposing real prison terms on all eight suspects.
