Chronicle of a School Massacre in Moscow Region That Killed a Fourth-Grader
Tuesday, December 16. At around 9:00 a.m., students were scattered in the corridors waiting for class. At this time, 15-year-old Timofey K. was changing in the bathroom: he put on a T-shirt with the inscription «No Lives Matter» («No one»s life matters.« — Ed.), and the teenager hid his face in a medical mask.
The youth exited into the corridor, where he ran into a group of students with a teacher. In Timofey«s hands were a knife and a pepper spray canister. Threatening them with violence, Timofey asked where the class with the »dark-skinned teacher« was. The guy recorded everything happening on video.
A security guard tried to stop the teenager, but he sprayed the canister and wounded the man with the knife. Then he chased down a fleeing fourth-grader and killed him. Realizing the victim was dead, Timofey took a selfie against the backdrop of the deceased.
Later, Timofey was detained by operatives, and at the investigative department, the guy admitted guilt. But the tragedy that happened at the school will be remembered by all of Moscow and the region for a long time. Built Mosques and Called for Killings
According to Timofey«s parents, their child grew up normal, and no oddities were noticed about him. In a conversation with »Moscow 24,« they said that he, like his peers, was fond of computer games.
The youth lived with his parents and sisters in a settlement next to the school. His father is an entrepreneur involved in renting and managing real estate. His mother studied at a medical college and, according to 2010 data, worked at a hospital.
However, as MSK1.RU found out, Timofey led a double life and hid his nationalist views and hobbies from his relatives. In computer games, he built maps with mosques and recreated terrorist attacks and pogroms. In chats, the young man often discussed interreligious relations and called for violence and killings. Additionally, the youth was subscribed to many anti-Islamic communities, for example, «Allah is ****».
Shortly before the attack on the school, the suspect sent classmates an 11-page document dated December 16, which called for bloody reprisals. Peers, seeing the message in the group chat, condemned him.
«Timokha, are you ** [an idiot]?» — wrote one of the schoolchildren.
«Ours Just Jumped Out the Window»
As eyewitnesses told, events developed rapidly. Timofey entered the primary school wing with a knife and «pepper spray,» but in the first minutes, not everyone understood that an attack was happening.
«We barricaded ourselves in the classroom. At first everything was normal, then they started knocking, screams began, running around. Everyone was writing that someone was killed, someone was stabbed,» — a school student told MSK1.RU.
According to the mother of one of the schoolchildren, the teacher told second-graders to turn off the light and not make noise. Others ran out of the building into the frost. Outside, adults wrapped them in warm clothes. More than 100 people took shelter in a neighboring sports complex.
«Ours just jumped out the window themselves, — the mother said. — The class teacher simply threw them out from the first floor.»
Soon, operatives and an ambulance arrived. Law enforcement officers managed to detain the teenager; he was loaded into a police van and taken for investigative actions. The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Moscow Region opened a criminal case on preparation for a crime and murder of a minor (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). During interrogation, Timofey admitted guilt.
«David Didn»t Have Time to Run Away«
The injured students were taken to the L.M. Roshal Children«s Scientific and Clinical Center. A 32-year-old security guard was also hospitalized with a knife wound and chemical burn to the face.
Timofey K. was taken to the investigative department. The youth«s parents learned about what happened from the news. Searches were conducted at the family»s home. Law enforcement officers discovered a cache with a pistol and a helmet inscribed with extremist slogans. Also, an item resembling a homemade explosive was found in the stash. Teachers said that Timofey studied with grades of 4 and 5 (equivalent to B and A), but a month before the attack, his grades slipped to 2s (D) and he stopped attending school.
The building where the massacre occurred was cordoned off with police tape. Sappers began inspecting classrooms for explosives. At this time, the mother of the deceased fourth-grader arrived at the school. She worked as a cleaner at the educational institution. Initially, the woman ran around searching for her son among the evacuated schoolchildren. Later, law enforcement officers took her into the building, where she identified her child«s body.
11-year-old David (name changed. — Ed.) was not the only child in the family. He left behind a twin brother, who also studies at this school. The mother raised her sons alone — about a year ago she lost her husband.
«He was a very good guy, calm. Just now my daughter called and said the killer was a Nazi. David didn»t have time to run away,« — one of the parents said.
Leaving the school, the mother of the deceased could not hold back tears. By the police tape, her sisters were waiting — the women sobbed, embracing each other. One of them required medical assistance.
In the afternoon, people began bringing flowers to the school in memory of the deceased David. Investigative actions lasted several hours; the boy«s body was taken away only after dark. David»s relatives said that in the three years the child studied at the school, he never received any threats regarding his nationality. The governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, expressed condolences to David«s loved ones and promised to provide assistance to the family.
«Nothing to Do: Either Go to the Neighboring Settlement or Sit on the Internet»
The MSK1.RU editorial office went to the settlement where Timofey, his father, and sisters lived. It takes only 8 minutes to drive from the school to the apartment building where the family settled. According to neighbors, they did not often see the guy and his relatives.
«I bought an apartment recently and didn»t have time to get to know anyone. I can«t imagine what happened to the boy [Timofey] and why he did this to a younger student,» — one of the neighbors shared with MSK1.RU.
According to locals, the young generation in the settlement has nothing to do, so many teenagers and schoolchildren spend time on the Internet.
«Are you talking about that guy? No one takes care of the settlement, there»s one playground and one sports ground here. There«s nothing to do, young people either go to the neighboring settlement or sit on the internet,» — settlement resident Pavel told MSK1.RU.
Blended with the Crowd and Carried a Weapon?
A psychological assistance point was set up near the school for students and their parents. At the same time, many adults admit in chats that they are not ready to let their children go to classes — the fear after what happened is too great.
«My daughter is in 10th grade. She»s been crying all day and saying: «I won»t go to school, how to walk on that stairs where a little child was killed,« » — wrote Anna.
The massacre exposed security problems at the school. According to «Izvestia,» metal detector frames were not working in the building, and security guards had no protective equipment with them. It is possible that Timofey was not even searched at the entrance.
The school was guarded by the enterprise «SHCHIT» (which means «shield» in Russian). The organization works with many social facilities and government institutions, with about 200 people listed as employees. Mikhail Kutin is listed as the general director. According to data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, «SHCHIT»s« revenue for 2024 amounted to 2.11 billion rubles (approximately $21 million at current rates), and net profit — 190 million rubles (approximately $1.9 million at current rates). According to »Izvestia,« searches are currently being conducted at the company»s office.
As students told MSK1.RU, the school also lacks a doctor. Therefore, no one could provide qualified medical assistance to the injured before the ambulance arrived.
After what happened, State Duma deputy Yana Lantratova stated the need to strengthen security at educational institutions: she proposed introducing special training for private security company employees. In Lantratova«s opinion, security guards should be able to detain and disarm attackers. The deputy also linked the tragedy at the Moscow region school with the abundance of destructive content on the internet.
«Continuous violence, cruelty, simulation of killings in video games, monster dolls with knives and blood, groups on the internet with propaganda of aggression, evil, — Lantratova explained her position. — And children, like sponges, absorb everything.»
As for Timofey K., he will soon undergo a series of forensic examinations. It is likely that a preventive measure will be chosen for him shortly. For many who knew the guy, the attack on the school came as a surprise. According to them, Timofey «didn»t stand out in any special way, was inconspicuous and rarely communicated with anyone.« Even when the youth sent a document with calls for violence to the class chat, no one took it seriously.
«Unfortunately, the children missed it. They thought it was a joke, because they didn»t suspect he could do such a thing,« — the mother of Timofey»s classmate told MSK1.RU.
