The Buguruslan District Court changed the pre-trial detention measure for 42-year-old Alexander V. — in late October, the man confessed to the murder of his 56-year-old neighbor, Marina S., who worked as a physical education teacher at a local gymnasium. After strangling the woman, he drove away in her Nissan, but got into a car accident. Then he moved the body to the driver«s seat and fled.

The motive for the murder was personal animosity — he believes that Marina poisoned his dogs and is generally to blame for all his failures. Nevertheless, he told investigators how he killed the woman — the evidence, including surveillance camera footage, was too overwhelming to deny.

The court proceedings in Buguruslan determined the suspect«s transfer to a psychiatric hospital.

It is also known that he is charged not only with murder but also with car theft (Part 1 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code and Part 1 of Article 166 of the Russian Criminal Code).

Judges at the Buguruslan court reviewed expert reports before making their decision.

Marina was remembered by townspeople as a bright and kind person. She is survived by a 14-year-old son, and previously she buried her husband and older son. Condolences to the woman«s family and loved ones were expressed by the head of Buguruslan, Dmitry Dyachenko.

Alexander«s pre-trial detention had already expired once — his time in the pre-trial detention center was ending, and the prosecution requested a one-month extension — not all investigative actions were completed, and it was not possible to finish the criminal investigation by New Year. Then Alexander»s detention was extended until January 25, but now the court has made a different decision.

Despite investigators again asking to keep the man in the pre-trial detention center, the judges, after reviewing the expert commission«s conclusion, sent him to a psychiatric hospital. But this is not yet a verdict — the accused will remain there until the prosecution completes the investigation.
