The head of Russia«s Investigative Committee (IC), Alexander Bastrykin, has demanded a report on the investigation into a criminal case concerning the private »Paradise Corner« retirement home in Krasnoyarsk. The execution of this order has been placed under the control of the central apparatus of the department, according to the IC»s information center.
On January 22, the investigative department for the Oktyabrsky District opened a criminal case under the article on providing services that do not meet safety requirements (Part 1, Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code). According to the investigation, physical force was used against the home«s residents, sanitary norms were violated at the institution, and elderly people did not receive proper medical care.
The situation at the retirement home became known on January 22. A reader of NGS24.RU reported that she started an internship there as a social worker on January 6 – and ran away the same day. According to her, the door was opened by a drunken woman swearing, a naked elderly resident was sitting in a puddle of urine on the floor, and feces were even on the walls in the toilet.
But what shocked the girl most was the treatment of the people:
«A staff member was pulling an old woman by the arms so hard that she screamed in pain. And one of the owners grabbed her by the chest and started shaking her, saying vulgar things,» the girl described what she saw.
When the girl returned on January 8 to pick up her things, she saw a resident with a black eye. She was told – she fell, hit the bedside table. The girl called the police and filed a report.
The retirement home denied everything. They stated that the complainant herself came to the internship drunk.
«The girl just saw, came for an internship, and the old woman blew up such a fire. She was escorted out of here. Probably did this out of spite.»
On the evening of January 22, Investigative Committee and prosecutors arrived at the retirement home. There were 19 elderly people there – the issue of their relocation is now being decided.
The prosecutor«s office established that the retirement home was operating without a license. Meanwhile, according to NGS24.RU, over the past three years it had been inspected 18 times, and in October 2025 it was assigned a high risk category – but the complaints only concerned the design of the website, not the conditions of the residents.
