In the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, a lawsuit has been registered by JSC Murmansk Gubernatorial Fleet against PJSC North Shipyard for 3.7 billion rubles ($37 million at current rates).
The subject of the dispute is the non-fulfillment of obligations under construction contracts, the details of which have not yet been disclosed.
Cooperation between North Shipyard and the Norrebo group began in 2017. The shipyard committed to building 10 freezer trawler-processors under project 170701 with a total cost of 38.4 billion rubles ($384 million at current rates).
However, construction faced delays due to disruptions in the supply of imported equipment.
To date, only one trawler has been handed over to the customer – the «Kapitan Sokolov» in March 2024. The second vessel, the «Kapitan Geller,» began sea trials in November 2025.
Another five trawlers are in the completion stage:
- «Kapitan Ostashkov»
- «Kapitan Breikhman»
- «Kapitan Tuzov»
- «Kapitan Abakumov»
- «Kapitan Pyashchikov»
In addition, the parties concluded contracts for the construction of longliners under project 200101. However, in 2023, the completion of four of them was transferred to the Otradnoye Shipbuilding Plant, which is part of the Norrebo group.
The Norrebo group was founded in 1997 and is among the top three largest fish harvesting enterprises in Russia. Its head office is located in Murmansk. The holding includes 13 fish harvesting companies in the Northwest and Far East of the country.
JSC Murmansk Gubernatorial Fleet is fully owned by PJSC Murmansk Trawler Fleet, which is part of GC Norrebo. For 2024, the company«s revenue amounted to 1.9 billion rubles ($19 million at current rates), with a net profit of 19 million rubles ($190,000 at current rates).
PJSC North Shipyard last year announced a large-scale modernization, with investments estimated at 300 billion rubles ($3 billion at current rates). For the third quarter of 2025, the shipyard showed revenue of 15.8 billion rubles ($158 million at current rates) and a net loss of 5.8 billion rubles ($58 million at current rates).
The Unified Shipbuilding Corporation, which includes North Shipyard, declined to comment on this lawsuit.
