Huge Maine Coon Murka finds new home after shelter surrender

Murka is shown in her shelter container and later relaxed in her new home with a regal expression.
Recently, a 15-kilogram (33 lb) Maine Coon named Murka arrived at the Perm shelter «Murcot». She was brought there directly in a plastic container. Murka found a new home in less than two days.
The director of «Murcot», Natalia Vodoleeva, told 59.RU that on 9 October 2025, a Maine Coon named Murka was brought to their shelter in a household container. Her owners reported that the cat had lived with their family for five years until she severely scratched the eye of a crawling child.
«The owners chose the lesser of two evils and surrendered the cat to the shelter,» Natalia said. «For almost a day, Murka sat in the container with the home scent and hissed at everyone. She refused food and did not use the litter box. By the evening of the second day, she was taken to a new home. It«s a kind married couple with experience in keeping large cats and no small children.»
The couple already had Maine Coons, but they died due to old age. The couple«s daughter shared with 59.RU that her parents really liked Murka and decided to take her from the shelter immediately.
«Murka has thawed a bit, she allows her head to be scratched,» the interlocutor shared. «She«s a beauty! Now she»s a queen! My parents haven«t regretted for a second taking Murka from the shelter. At my home, there are three pets: a cat and two female cats rescued from the street. It»s a family tradition for us.»
Earlier we wrote that in Perm, they are looking for a home for a curly cat named Iriska — he was brought to a dog shelter after his owner«s death, but there wasn»t enough space there.
