Yekaterinburg Student Rescued from Myanmar Scam Center
21-year-old student Madina, who was held captive by scammers in Myanmar, has flown to Russia. According to available information, she is currently in Irkutsk.
When asked about her condition, Madina replied: «Everything is fine, but if you have a time machine, I wouldn’t refuse it.»
The girl went abroad to earn money. Since June 2025, she was forcibly held in a call center, where she was subjected to hunger, beatings, and forced labor. According to testimonies, people died in front of her eyes in this center.
Madina’s family lives in a Ural village located a hundred kilometers from Yekaterinburg. She has an older sister and two younger brothers.
She did not tell her loved ones about her experience in Myanmar.
In several Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, a transnational criminal network operates. It recruits Russians and citizens of CIS countries, promising employment in Thailand.
After passing an “online interview,” people were lured to Bangkok. They were bought airline tickets that allowed them to cross the border without visas and bypass official border controls.
Similar incidents have occurred before. For example, in September last year, another girl was tricked into going to Myanmar and forced to work in fraudulent call centers.
