The Ministry of Defence of Finland prevented the conclusion of four real estate transactions in the municipality of Sipoo in the first month of the year. All attempts, according to reports, came from one Russian citizen.
According to the ministry, a 41-year-old man planned to buy three properties for housing, without having permanent residence in the country. He intended to acquire the fourth property through a company registered in the city of Vantaa. In all four cases, the counterparty was the same seller.
This case became the latest known intervention by the Finnish military ministry in real estate operations carried out by Russians on the country«s territory.

The ban does not apply to persons with dual citizenship of Russia and an EU or EEA state, as well as to those who have permanent residence in the EU issued by Finnish authorities. According to statistics from the National Land Survey, last year Russians acquired 55 real estate properties in Finland: 35 before the law came into force and 20 after its adoption.
In mid-December, mass media reported on the seizure of a villa belonging to businessman Boris Rotenberg.
