Scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand reported that a second wave of abnormally cold weather is approaching the region.

At the end of January and next week, thermometers will show readings 5–12 degrees below the long-term average.

‘In the southern half of the Urals, in Sverdlovsk Oblast, in Tyumen Oblast, both at the end of the month and next week, temperatures are expected to be 5–12 degrees below normal, with frosts down to −29…−36 degrees Celsius (−20…−33°F),’ the meteorologist stated.

The severe frosts, caused by an invasion of Arctic air, are expected to be short-lived.

After February 5, weather conditions in the region will return to more comfortable values for this time of year.
