Sverdlovsk EMERCOM (Emergency Situations Ministry) has issued an emergency weather warning for February 4. On Wednesday, heavy snow is expected in parts of Sverdlovsk Region.

‘An atmospheric front near the western borders of the region will give rise to a cyclone on the night of February 4. It will bring snow northward along the western slopes of the Ural Mountains. Heavy precipitation of up to 7–10 millimeters is expected in western Sverdlovsk Region. In the east, snow will be lighter (1–4 mm). As the cyclone moves away on February 5, cold air from the European part of Russia will advance towards the Urals, causing temperatures to fall by 10–12°C (50–54°F),’ said Chief Forecaster of the Urals Galina Sheporenko.

Rescuers are asking residents of the region to be cautious during the bad weather. EMERCOM reminded drivers to follow traffic rules, observe speed limits, and maintain distance. If you are on the highway during snowfall, move to the far right lane (or onto the shoulder) and slowly come to a stop. Turn on hazard lights and wait out the precipitation. Pedestrians should avoid unstable structures and buildings with insecure roofs.

In case of emergency, call the unified emergency services number ‘112’.
