The Hydrometeorological Center has issued a warning for abnormally cold weather that will settle over Sverdlovsk Oblast from 21 to 25 January.

Specialists from the Ural hydrometeorological center reported: «Abnormally cold weather is expected in Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan oblasts, as well as Perm Krai. On the coldest days, 22–23 January, temperatures at night will be -30 to -37°C (-22 to -35°F), dropping to -40 to -42°C (-40 to -44°F) in low-lying areas.»

In Yekaterinburg on Monday, 22 January, cloudy weather with clear spells is forecast, with practically no precipitation. At night, the thermometer will drop to -34°C (-29°F), while daytime temperatures will range from -27 to -29°C (-17 to -20°F).

On Tuesday, 23 January, variable cloudiness is expected. The frost will intensify at night to -36°C (-33°F), while during the day the air will warm to around -27°C (-17°F).

Residents of the region will only feel a slight increase in temperature after 25 January, but it will still remain below the seasonal norm.

Due to the severe cold, a large ice slide and a skating rink in the center of Yekaterinburg have already been closed. This decision followed recent frosts when temperatures in the Ural capital dropped to nearly -30°C (-22°F). During such periods, many parents prefer to keep their children at home, following recommendations for school attendance in frosty weather.
