February Brings Extreme Temperature Swings to Tolyatti

February can confidently be called a month of surprises. The last winter month can bring both bitter frosts and spring-like warmth. We publish the characteristics of February from Samara meteorologists.
“According to long-term observation data, the average monthly temperature in February is -7.6°C to -12.9°C (18°F to 9°F). Absolute minimum air temperatures have been recorded at -38°C to -46°C (-36°F to -51°F) (in 1929, 1930, 1951, 1954, 1956, 1967, 1976, 1994, 2006, 2011). Maximum air temperatures in 1987, 1990, 1999, 2000, 2002 reached 7–12°C (45–54°F),” said the Privolzhskoye UGMS (the Volga Region Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Service, UGMS), which provided general information for the Samara, Ulyanovsk, Penza, Saratov, and Orenburg regions.
According to meteorologists, total precipitation in February is 18–43 mm. Snow cover in open areas by the end of the month reaches 19–27 cm, sometimes 44–52 cm.
“From 1 to 3 days of icing are observed, with slightly more days of frost (3–7 days). Blizzards occur on average for 3 to 8 days, in some years up to 10–12 days. The prevailing wind is from the south,” the meteorologists also reported.
The weather in the last winter month has already begun testing the resilience of Samara region residents. On February 3, the region was buried in snow, and the morning of February 4 brought quite severe frosts.
