The last calendar month of winter has arrived. The previous two months brought temperature swings, prolonged frosts, and heavy snowfalls — what awaits in February? Meteorologists from the science-popular project «Meteorologist and I» have provided a forecast for Perm Krai.
Experts say February is expected to be colder than December but warmer than January. Moreover, precipitation will be less this month. However, according to the long-term forecast, February will still be colder than the climate norm — according to the Russian Hydrometeorological Center (Roshydromet), the deviation will be no more than -1 °C (30 °F).
«In terms of precipitation, February 2026 is expected to be quite wet,» write the specialists. «Given that in the first four days of the month more than half the monthly norm has already fallen, such a forecast can be considered quite reliable.»
From February 5 to 10, the temperature deviation from the norm will be -1.5 to -2 °C (29 to 28 °F) in the west of Perm Krai and near normal in the east. Snowfall is expected to be significantly less than in the first half of the decade: from 5 to 10 millimeters.
The second ten-day period of February is also expected to be uneven in terms of temperature deviation from the norm: in the north of Perm Krai, the anomaly will be -1.5 to -2 °C (29 to 28 °F), while in the south it will still be near normal. The coldest days will be February 11–15, but precipitation will be within the norm, and in the north even slightly deficient.
According to preliminary data, the third decade of February is expected to be within the climate norm — forecasters have noted a warming trend. In this case, the temperature deviation will be +1 to +2 °C (34 to 36 °F). Precipitation is expected within normal limits.
