Abnormally low temperatures may cause changes in the operating schedule of schools in Samara Region. This warning was issued by representatives of the regional Ministry of Education.

Department specialists reminded that due to cold weather, schoolchildren may be switched to distance learning. However, the final decision is made by school principals, based on forecasts from the Privolzhsky Hydrometeorological Center (UGMS). As a result, the head of the educational institution must issue the appropriate order.

As explained by the Ministry of Education of Samara Region, there are three temperature thresholds at which children are switched to distance learning:

  • at -25°C (-13°F) — for students in grades 1-4;

  • at -27°C (-17°F) — for students in grades 1-8;

  • at -30°C (-22°F) — for students in grades 1-11.

Information about class cancellations must be conveyed to parents by homeroom teachers. Moreover, they should be informed the evening before. On such days, remote lessons are organized for children. Furthermore, if students do come to school, not only will classes be held, but they will also be provided with hot meals.

According to forecasts from the Privolzhsky Hydrometeorological Center (UGMS), on the night of Sunday, January 25, temperatures in Samara Region will drop to -32°C (-26°F). During the day, the region will warm up to -22°C to -17°C (-8°F to 1°F).

Similar weather is forecast by meteorologists for Monday, January 26. And if nighttime temperatures remain the same, then during the day thermometers will show from -20°C to -15°C (-4°F to 5°F).
