Chelyabinsk Region to Experience -40°C Frosts

A storm warning is in effect in Chelyabinsk Region due to abnormal frosts. The Hydrometeorological Center (Hydrometcenter) reports that as early as tonight, thermometers could drop to -40°C (-40°F).
Forecasters also predict light snow in some parts of the southern region, and in certain areas, icy conditions and frost.
The detailed forecast for January 22 indicates night temperatures between -29 and -34°C (approximately -20 to -29°F). With clearing skies, a cooling to -35 to -40°C (-31 to -40°F) is expected, although in the south and extreme west of the region, the frost will be weaker, down to -26°C (-15°F). During the day on Thursday, temperatures will be -24 to -29°C (-11 to -20°F), and in the south and west, up to -17°C (1°F).
In Chelyabinsk, extreme values are not anticipated, but the cooling will be noticeable. At night, residents can expect -30 to -32°C (-22 to -26°F), during the day -25 to -27°C (-13 to -17°F).
According to meteorologists, the frosty weather will linger in the region for several days.
Forecasters warned earlier,
In the period from January 21 to 26, intense cold advection combined with nocturnal cooling will lead to a sharp drop in air temperatures and, consequently, to another temperature anomaly.
Recall that last week, the Southern Urals already experienced abnormal frosts, with some places recording up to -45°C (-49°F). At that time, school classes were canceled for three days, and taxi drivers demanded additional payment for working in harsh conditions.
