Buried to the Nostrils! Samara Snowfalls Break Records

«And the snow keeps falling, and the snow keeps falling…»
February in the Samara region began with weather records. On 3 February, several weather stations in the region broke historical daily precipitation records.

Table of daily maxima
In Bolshaya Glushitsa, 21.4 mm of precipitation was recorded. The previous record from 2021 was 9.7 mm — more than double.
Sernovodsk recorded 13.4 mm compared to the previous maximum of 6.6 mm, and Avangard saw 15.5 mm versus 8.7 mm in 2021.
The «deviation» in the table shows how many millimeters the new record exceeded the old one. In Bolshaya Glushitsa, the difference was 11.7 mm.
This means that in just one day, some areas of the region received a significant portion of the average monthly precipitation for February, which, according to meteorologists, ranges from 18 to 43 mm.
Snowfall on 3 February and the subsequent frost became the first serious test of the winter. Earlier, the Privolzhskoye UGMS (Volga Hydrometeorological Service) warned that February is a month of surprises: it can bring thaws up to +12°C (53.6°F) and frosts down to -40°C (-40°F), and blizzards that can last up to 12 days. Judging by the start of the month, one of these scenarios is already coming true.
