Malaya Pokrovskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod to Go Pedestrian from January

In Nizhny Novgorod, on Malaya Pokrovskaya Street, «No Entry» signs will be installed from January 28. This is due to the decision to make the section from Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street to Arkhitektora Kharitonova Street pedestrian-only.

As stated by the city administration, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University conducted relevant studies before the decision was made. The results showed that removing Malaya Pokrovskaya Street from traffic does not lead to significant changes and does not affect the operation of adjacent streets, the mayor«s office noted.
The changes will also affect neighboring streets. The authorities plan to widen the roadway on Maslyakova Street to four lanes with two-way traffic organization; modernize traffic lights on Gorky Square near the Communications House and at the intersections of Bolshaya and Malaya Pokrovskaya, Malaya Pokrovskaya and Gogolya, as well as at the junction of Maslyakova to Gorky Square. Also planned is the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Maslyakova Street, Pokhvalinsky Descent, Oboznaya, and Malaya Yamskaya.
«In the new traffic scheme, a key role is assigned to Maslyakova Street, which allows reducing the traffic load on Malaya Pokrovskaya Street, reconsidering its purpose, and organizing a convenient pedestrian zone for a comfortable and safe connection between Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street and Ilyinskaya Street, as well as the Terrasny Park being developed in the Pochayinsky Ravine, the central entrance to which will be located on Arkhitektora Kharitonova Street,» concluded the mayor«s office.
The initiative to make the section from Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street to Arkhitektora Kharitonova Street pedestrian-only was presented in November. As stated by the mayor«s office, the Community of Young Families made this proposal.
