M-4 'Don' Toll Road Fares to Increase Again

Today, January 22, it became known about the plans of the company Avtodor to increase the cost of travel on toll roads already this year.
“In accordance with the economic development of the country and the terms of the contract, we will consider this issue, of course. Because there is inflation, costs are rising for everyone, including for road maintenance. Therefore, of course, we are considering it,” said the head of the state company Vyacheslav Petushenko to journalists from TASS.
Recall that there are only 14 toll roads in Russia, nine of which are managed by Avtodor: M-1 «Belarus», M-2 «Ukraine», M-4 «Don», M-11 «Neva», M-12 «Vostok», A-113 TsKAD, A-289 (road to the Crimean Bridge), the bypass of Tolyatti and the eastern exit of the city of Ufa.
Additionally, tolls are charged on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter, Bagration Avenue and the Northern Bypass of Odintsovo in the capital, there are Pskov toll roads (4 sections) and the toll Ryazan overpass (a bridge, passage on which costs 35 rubles (about $0.39 at current rates)), toll bridges across the Kama and Buy rivers in Udmurtia, the Western High-Speed Diameter in St. Petersburg.
The last time travel on toll roads became more expensive was in February 2025. Now the route from the capital to the Black Sea via M-4 costs almost 6,000 rubles (approximately $67 at current rates). From Voronezh — 4,000 rubles (about $44 at current rates) without the transponder discount, which is 15%.
Toll roads, as a rule, are built as a faster and more comfortable alternative to free highways. On toll roads, the permitted speed reaches 130 km/h on some sections. However, drivers who regularly travel on M-4 know that due to problems with asphalt, endless repairs, all the advantages of the toll road are negated. And queues at payment points during peak hours — negate all potential time savings.
