Bionord Returns to Novosibirsk's Fourth Bridge Despite City Ban

The fourth bridge in Novosibirsk is being treated with Bionord. Information about this appeared on the website of the Ural Plant of Anti-Icing Materials (UZPM) — one of the reagent«s producers. The use was also confirmed by the VIS Group.
The VIS Group told NGS that they are spreading Bionord on the roadway of the bridge along the main route. The reagent has the ability to melt ice and snow-ice deposits. Its composition includes corrosion inhibitors and special additives that reduce the material«s aggressive impact on metal surfaces of vehicles.
The delivery of the reagent for the fourth bridge was reported on the UZPM plant«s website at the end of January. The enterprise reported that it began supplying the anti-icing composition »Bionord Universal«. The press service clarified that for bridges, a material with low corrosion activity is important.
«Bridges are subjected to constant temperature fluctuations and dynamic loads, which makes their structures vulnerable to corrosion. Technical salt with high corrosion activity accelerates the destruction of metal elements, reduces the structure»s strength, and shortens its service life. The use of materials with low corrosion impact is a necessary condition for preserving the durability of such objects,« the UZPM press service reports.
The VIS Group is responsible for maintaining the bridge; the Novosibirsk city hall could not comment on the use of the reagent at the facility.
In December, Mayor Maxim Kudryavtsev in an interview with NGS said that the approaches to road treatment in the city had changed: they started using rock screenings and decided to completely abandon Bionord. About three thousand tons remained in stock, which they plan to use up, and no new supplies are ordered. The city head added that the reagent was abandoned due to residents« outrage.
