Barnaul plans extensive road repairs with billions allocated for 2026

The Barnaul city administration has approved road repair plans for 2026, allocating nearly 2.9 billion rubles (approximately $29 million at current rates) to fix over 18 kilometers of key arteries and improve rural areas.

Authorities in Barnaul have approved plans for road repairs in 2026. Almost 2.9 billion rubles (approximately $29 million at current rates) will be directed from various sources for these purposes, reports the press service of the city administration.

The mayor«s office specified that under the national project »Infrastructure for Life,« repairs are planned for eight road sections with a total length of over 18 kilometers. The list includes such important city arteries as Anton Petrov Street, Popov Street, Vzletnaya Street, as well as Stroitely Avenue and Lenin Avenue. This will improve traffic capacity and safety on the busiest sections.

Special attention will be paid to the improvement of roads in rural and settlement areas, as well as in neighborhoods of individual residential development. For these purposes, 67 million rubles (approximately $670,000 at current rates) have been allocated, which will go towards repairing 21 road sections.

The initiative budgeting program will also be actively developed. In 2026, it is planned to implement 10 projects proposed by residents themselves. Among them are asphalting of Furmanov and Slivovaya streets, as well as road repairs in the villages of Borzovaya Zaimka and Yagodnoye.

In addition to major repairs, during the 2026 road construction season, routine repairs of the street-road network will be carried out on a total area of over 114,000 square meters. For these works, 234.6 million rubles (approximately $2.35 million at current rates) have been allocated.

Besides repairs, city authorities plan to expand the intelligent transport system (ITS) by connecting new traffic lights on Stroitely Avenue and Zmeinogorsky Tract. For the full operation of the ITS, traffic light equipment will be modernized, and detectors and cameras for monitoring traffic flows will be installed.
